We’ve all heard about search engine optimization (SEO), which is the factor that determines how highly your site gets ranked in search engine results. App store optimization (ASO), on the other hand, determines how highly your app gets ranked in app store listings whenever a user searches for something in your niche. Why is app store optimization important? Data tells us that people find new apps through app store searches 63% of the time. If you don’t optimize your app for the app store, you will only be able to bring attention to your app through external sources. What affects app store optimization? There are two main factors that affect your rankings in app store searches: your app’s name and description keywords, for one, and the ratings and reviews the app has received, for another. If you use the right keywords in the description and title and your app receives stellar reviews (4 stars and higher), your app will rocket to the top of the listings. Use the right kind of content To improve ASO, you need to use relevant keywords in the title. Apps that have the right keyword in the title rank over 10% higher than apps that don’t. To make your app more attractive to customers, you can also design beautiful (but relevant) icons and use high-quality descriptive images. Gather data to build a useful app Is your app useful to your targeted audience? You need to do your research first, preferably while designing your app, for maximum results. Put yourself in the user’s place and ask yourself some questions: Is this app something you’d want to use every day? Is the app easy to use? You can also use industry data – with the help of analytics tools – to further customize your app. ASO can only take your app so far, though – it needs to be useful, well-designed, and bug-free long-term if you want customers to keep using it once you get them to download it. It pays to hire an experienced development team to work on your app if you want it to be successful.
